Opinion: Universities should be creating broad thinkers, not just experts

If you know a university student, prod them any way you can to step into the universe of history, religion, literature and philosophy, not to fill their heads with theory, but to find a course, a mentor or a seminar that allows them to think as broadly as possible. A society of specialists without sufficient numbers of generalists is a deeply worrisome prospect. At the very least, being at university should take in as much of the universe — and beyond it — as possible.(Sun)
